FEATURE FILM CASTING CALL
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Inspired by a very real and transformative moment in the co-director Elle-Máijá’s life, Stay weaves an intricately complex, while at the same time very simple, story of a chance encounter between two Indigenous women with drastically different lived experience, navigating the aftermath of domestic abuse. Our intention with this film is to incite discourse around violence against women, racism, and social inequality. It will question our complacency in the face of such violence and the complications of how we react in its presence. Ultimately, the story draws from and brings attention to the strength and resilience of Indigenous women and girls.
CASTING CALL: Indigenous women, ages 16-22 yrs old. Please only submit if you identify as Indigenous. No previous acting experience necessary.
ROLE: Rosie - 19 yrs old, Indigenous, 8 months pregnant
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION: Rosie grew up in northern B.C. and has recently aged out of foster care. A lifetime of broken trust, has made Rosie both guarded and vulnerable. She is wise beyond her years and deeply sensitive to the world around her. She’s also a bit of a smart-ass and often finds other people’s discomfort amusing. Despite her fierce independence, she has found herself pregnant and trapped in an abusive relationship with an older man. Ultimately, what she wants more than anything else, is to find stability and build the loving and supportive family she never had.
